Neeraj Chopra Ready for Asian Games 2023 Challenge
India’s javelin sensation, Neeraj Chopra, is all set to compete in the ongoing Asian Games 2023 in China. Expressing his excitement, Neeraj shared his positive experience in China, stating that he feels great to be a part of the 19th Asian Games and is enjoying the favorable environment.
Reflecting on Past Success and Upcoming Challenges
Having secured gold in the previous Asian Games, Neeraj is enthusiastic about his participation this time. The javelin final, scheduled for October 4, has sparked anticipation, especially with the comparison drawn between Neeraj Chopra and Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem.
India-Pakistan Rivalry in Javelin Throw
The India-Pakistan sports rivalry extends beyond cricket to javelin throwing. Neeraj and Arshad have faced off seven times, with their first encounter dating back to the 2016 South Asian Games, where Neeraj claimed gold and Arshad won bronze. Neeraj currently holds a 9-0 lead in their head-to-head record.
Arshad Nadeem Poses a Challenge
While Neeraj Chopra has dominated their previous encounters, Pakistani throwers have become formidable competitors since 2018, presenting a potential challenge in the Asian Games. Neeraj acknowledges the growing competition and views Arshad Nadeem as a commendable rival.
Focusing on Personal Bests
In a pre-Asian Games interview, Neeraj emphasized his primary competition being with himself. Acknowledging Arshad’s skills, he stated, “Arshad played with me, but I won. My focus has always been on giving my best and not on who is in front of me. In athletics, you compete against yourself and give your best. Yes, the throwers of Pakistan are definitely my inspiration, but my fight is with myself.”
